The uric acid crystals build up in joints, causing excruciating flare-ups. Some have described gout pain as akin to sticking a red hot poker in the affected joint (14)<sup data-fn=\"579e419d-9050-4c23-92b3-9072366769b0\" class=\"fn\"><a id=\"579e419d-9050-4c23-92b3-9072366769b0-link\" href=\"#579e419d-9050-4c23-92b3-9072366769b0\">14<\/a><\/sup>!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to Statista, around 34.5 million people suffered from gout in 2017. This number may increase to 38.5 million in 2026 (15<sup data-fn=\"e3d9afda-5a65-429f-87f9-7288677fc2b0\" class=\"fn\"><a id=\"e3d9afda-5a65-429f-87f9-7288677fc2b0-link\" href=\"#e3d9afda-5a65-429f-87f9-7288677fc2b0\">15<\/a><\/sup>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-can-omega-3-fatty-acids-help-with-gout\">Can omega-3 fatty acids help with gout?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While omega-3 has&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.intelligentlabs.org\/omega-3-ultimate-supplement-guide\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">many scientifically-proven health benefits<\/a>, its effects on gout aren\u2019t well-studied yet. Quite surprising considering the purine content in fish, but researchers did the math and made adjustments for anti-gout medication (17<sup data-fn=\"f795c8f5-28fe-4208-880e-6d9c134788d9\" class=\"fn\"><a id=\"f795c8f5-28fe-4208-880e-6d9c134788d9-link\" href=\"#f795c8f5-28fe-4208-880e-6d9c134788d9\">17<\/a><\/sup>). \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While a small study did report that high omega-3 levels may be associated with fewer gout attacks, it had a few drawbacks. For instance, the researchers did not collect data on dietary risk factors and patient lifestyles (18<sup data-fn=\"57d037f2-1592-41c9-8cf2-45f82321b483\" class=\"fn\"><a id=\"57d037f2-1592-41c9-8cf2-45f82321b483-link\" href=\"#57d037f2-1592-41c9-8cf2-45f82321b483\">18<\/a><\/sup>). Unfortunately, these are key pieces of information that can seriously affect the study\u2019s outcome. \u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-conclusion\">Conclusion<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To sum up this article, omega-3 fatty acids may indeed help with rheumatoid arthritis. Sadly, its effects on osteoarthritis and gout aren\u2019t as clear-cut, but that doesn\u2019t mean you shouldn\u2019t eat omega-3-rich foods or supplements. Without a doubt, omega-3 is one of the most vital nutrients for human health and wellness.
